The Futurewise journey
Jessica’s Futurewise
journey...
I enjoyed most of my GCSE subjects, but especially chemistry and
French. When my tutor asked me at the start of Year 11 what I was
planning to do after GCSEs, I had no idea,so I decided to enrol in
Futurewise.
The Futurewise report was spookily accurate and the career
suggestions were very interesting. I thought that the
interpretation interview would be scary, but the interviewer was
very nice, helping me understand my profile results and explaining
the links between subjects and careers. He helped me draw up an
action plan and his advice made me feel more confident about
choosing my sixth form subjects.
My profile showed that I am an all rounder, so in the end I
decided to take a mixture of sciences and humanities at A level. I
used my Futurewise webspace to research university entry
requirements which helped me decide on the best combination of AS
and A2 level subjects for the careers that interested me. The
Futurewise careers experience event that I attended helped me
decide which career to follow and what I had to do. I knew that
work experience was important, so I used the guidelines on
Futurewise to write a CV and sent it to local companies, one of
which took me on for a week after GCSEs.
I got on really well and now have a holiday job with the company
and I can include details of my experience to my UCAS personal
statement.
I was unsure about which university to apply to, so with my
parents, I used the Futurewise information, advice and guidance
helpline to ask about graduate employment prospects. This
information helped me to narrow my choice and decide upon a
specific university and degree subject. Although my teachers and
tutor were always willing to help me, I feel that Futurewise has
allowed me to be in control of planning my future.
Jessica is currently studying for an MEng in Aerospace
